Installation Instructions
(1996-2001 GM C/K 2500/3500 7.4/8.1L V-8 VORTEC Part
#74015)
Important!
Read all instructions before you begin installation.
1.
Remove
the “VORTEC” diffuser. Loosen the clamp at the throttle body. Disconnect the
air temperature sensor and the mass air flow sensor. Loosen hose from air
cleaner and remove the intake hose assembly. Now remove the complete air
cleaner assembly.
2.
Disconnect
the throttle cable and cruise control cable bracket from the intake manifold.
3.
Assemble
the extension bracket to the cable bracket, as per illustration. Attach the
bracket extender to the intake manifold with the longer bolts and spacers.
4.
Adjustment
of the cruise control cable is needed to make sure of a proper idle. Adjust
the cable end so that there is at least 1/8” deflection up and down.
5.
(Note:
8.1L engines, unclamp and remove the air inlet tube from throttle body. Now
continue with step 5.) Remove three retaining nuts and studs from the
throttle body. Lean throttle body back and remove throttle body gasket from
the intake manifold.
6.
Install
the Helix Power Tower, sandwiched by two gaskets (supplied in kit) onto the
manifold with the longer bolts and washers (supplied in kit). Torque bolts to
12 ft/lb.
7.
Reinstall
the air cleaner assembly, the supply hose and MAF sensor, and secure the
“VORTEC” lid with nut and clamp. Reconnect the sensor connectors. Make sure
that all the connections are properly connected and tightened. (Note: 8.1L
engines reinstall the air inlet tube onto the throttle body and tighten the
coupler clamp securely)
