AIRMAX
Installation Instructions
(1988-1995 Chevrolet 4.3/5.0/5.7L TBI Part # 15700)
Important!
Read all instructions before you begin installation.
1.
Remove
the original air cleaner assembly, PCV vent spacer, air inlet, and baffle.
2.
Remove
the baffle retainer assembly from the fender by unbolting the two 5/16” nuts.
3.
Install
two 5/16” carriage bolts into the AirMax mount. Lay the two 3/8”x1” flat
washers on fender (using the existing mounting holes from the baffle retaining
assembly) aligning the mounting holes. Install the AIRMAX filter assembly into
the fender holes. Use the two 5/16” nuts and washers supplied with the kit.
Torque to 15 ft/lb.
4.
If your
air cleaner assembly used only one retaining stud omit this step. Install new
plenum stud in throttle body. Thread the stud in about five full turns.
5.
Place the
plenum onto throttle body catching the stud through the small hole at the top
of the plenum. Finish by using original wing nut to secure plenum. (Note:
some engines used a plastic PCV vent spacer and will be required to purchase a
gasket to be placed between the plenum and throttle body GM #25511809 or FelPro
#60038)
6.
Slip two
clamps onto the filter housing. Connect the filter housing to the plenum by
fitting the rubber gasket over the plenum and filter housing. The rubber gasket
is to seal the gap in between the air plenum and filter housing. Once the
gasket is set, adjust clamps on the rubber gasket and tighten the clamps. Tight
enough so that the plenum does not slip in the gasket and that the filter housing
does not slip in the gasket.
7.
Install
the crankcase vent-tube to the nipple located on rear of plenum. Some models
may require the supplied 2” hose extension.
